Well, I have good success with my standard protocol of 5 ppt NaDCC (5g/L), for 5-10 minutes. I've had 3 instances of contamination in about 80 flasks the last 6 months. However I do use PPM in the medium at 1/2the recommended dose.

5000 ppm/L

The amount you use will vary with the plants you are working with. I use anywhere from 1% available chlorine to .001% ac depending on what I'm working with. For most plants and seeds I use 0.6% available chlorine from house household bleach, (household bleach 6% available chlorine mixed 1 part to 9 parts water).

Here's a formula to figure out the available chlorine when you mix NaDCC. You'll need to test your plants with it. A good starting point would be 0.5% available chlorine.

The % of chlorine desired divided by the % of chlorine in NaDCC, times 1000 = Grams of powder for each liter of water.

Example: To make a 0.5% chlorine solution from NaDCC containing 96% available chlorine:

[0.5% divided by 96%] = [0.0052083] times 1000 = 5.2 grams NaDCC in 1 liter of water in order to make a 0.5% chlorine solution.
